Ok... SO... Marriage...hmmm... can somebody please...please tell me the definition. I have this friend in the military and the only reason he wanted to get married to his girlfriend was because it would bring extra money in. I had to ask did he love her, he said "I have love for her, but I dont love her. I'm not ready to commit, but I do need the money, so yeah i shot her a lie and said your the woman for me." I was so furious. It made me think about Herland a little bit and how marriage was important to them and now a days...its not. How could you as a male stoop so low.
I cant even get mad at all the men because women too. They look for, what we talked about in class "Mrs. Degrees." Thinking that a man's fortune will bring them happiness... although money cant buy you love or happiness, but whats the worth after you buy the material things?
I understand that marriage is supposed to be sacred and i adore people who can actually committ to one another. My parents have been married 27 years, they are my inspiration, but if they ever...and i mean ever get a divorce, I'm done. I will never marry or want to. but I just want to know the definition because it seems that everyone has it confused...so help me out!!!!

First, what a sad story... particularly for the girl who believed him. But, so freqently women do get married for financial security - is this different?
ReplyDeleteYour question about marriage is important! Is it for financial security, to give legitimacy to children, to express lifelong love, to please families, to have a 'sanctified' sexual relationship, to provide a governmentally recognized unit, to merge power? AND... who is allowed to marry?
